A few of the first birds seen while in the Eastern Cape; South Africa....

Southern grey-headed sparrow (Passer diffusus)...

As above   The bird in the background is a Southern masked weaver.

Fork-tailed Drongo (Dicrurus adsimilis).

Laughing dove (Spilopelia senegalensis)...

As above...

As above...

As above.

Rosy-faced lovebird (Agapornis roseicollis).  These birds are not native to the area, they are popular as caged birds and a number must have escaped at some stage.  There are many in the area and are obviously breeding well.  There are a number of different varieties.

As above.

  2. That was some comment you sent to me Diane. It seems that you are the one who needs to take care - even to walking in broad daylight. The antics of the Laughing Doves gave me a laugh, just as our Woodpigeons have done right into November. A pair sit along the garden fence just inches apart billing and cooing for all they are worth, keeping the bond going.

Take care now. And I hope you go out with a bright yellow jacket on at all times now it's hunting season.

    1. Thought it might interest you!! I try to stay on the busier roads rather than the tracks during hunting season, and yes I join the 'gilets jaunes' at this time of the year! The laughing doves certainly knew it was spring, but then our Woodpigeons still appeared to be nest making in October!!1 Hope you are well, Diane

  6. The french problems with shooters made it to Saturday's Daily Telegraph. Seems it's linked to drinking and then going out with a gun! And double vision and falling over? Not a laughing matter so stay safe.

    1. I try to keep away from hunting areas as much as possible and I do wear bright colours. After having been so ill on our return from RSA though I have not been out walking. Although I feel fine the cough lingers and I do not think either getting wet or breathing in icy cold air is quite the right thing to do!! I will try to stay safe, thanks for worrying, Diane
