Our year in photos.......

January 3rd - Mute Swan (Cygnus olor) and Black-headed Gulls (Chroicocephalus ridibundus) seen while in the UK.

February 26th - Eurasian or Common Crane (Grus grus) flying North over our house in France.  Very noisy!!

March 15th - Blackbird male (Turdus merula) taking a bath in our garden.

April 29th - House Sparrow (Passer domesticus) in the garden.

May 24th - Young House Martins (Delichon urbicum), in the town of Monflanquin, France.
P.S.Not a good month for birding!!

June 20th - House Sparrow female (Passer domesticus) in the garden.
A great month for insects but only sparrows in the garden!

July 31st - The Little Owl makes a regular appearance on our barn roof. (Athene noctua).

August 12th - Wood Pigeon (Columba palumbus). In the garden.  Nest making in August ???

September 20th - Black Redstart (Phoenicurus ochruros).  On our roof.

October 18th - Wing-Snapping Cisticola (Cisticola ayresii).  Holiday in South Africa.

November 7th - Giant kingfisher (Megaceryle maxima). Holiday in South Africa.

December - cheated a bit here this is last year!! Eurasian blue tit (Cyanistes caeruleus).

  1. That's a great mix of birds from around the globe Diane. For just a second there I thought the cisticola was a Whinchat.

    Shame about your camera and you are probably right. This is very much a throwaway world and unless your camera set-up cost many hundreds of pounds, it may be more economical to start again. I notice there are some good deals on the Nikon P1000 and the Canon SX70.

    1. Phil there is nothing wrong with my camera it is the telephoto lens that is the problem. Hope you have a good Christmas and a very successful 2020, Best wishes Diane

  6. I nearly missed this one, Diane - I suspect that I saw the Little Owl and thought I'd alread seen it and commented. However, you can't have too many Little Owls!! A fine collection of birds you've seen over the year. I hope 2020 brings you even more encounters - and that the camera set-up doesn't let you down!
