A few emergency local shots from a very wet Charente. The time just flies when one is having fun!!
Common wood pigeon (Columba palumbus).
As above.
As above with Common chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs) female, and House sparrows (Passer domesticus). Interesting to see how big the pigeons are by comparison.
Common chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs) male,
I saw this little fellow a long way off while out walking. I suspect it is a European stonechat (Saxicola rubicola) but I would love confirmation please. It has been confrmed as Saxicola rubicola thanks to Nathalie.
As above.
The same day I saw this Great Tit (Parus major) also a long way off.
Joining up with
Interesting neck feathers of the wood pigeon.
ReplyDeleteThey are quite attractive birds. We only ever get two in the garden, now for many years. Maybe one is sterile as I would expect more to come and feed otherwise. Cheers Diane
DeleteBonsoir.
Diane
Hello, the birds are all beautiful. I especially love the look of the Wood pigeon. Great photos. Enjoy your day, wishing you good days ahead.
ReplyDeleteThanks Eileen, the Wood pigeons are sadly good eating, but this pair seem to have escaped and are in our garden most of the time. Hope the week is good for you, Diane
DeleteHi Diane - love the photos ... I'm afraid I'm not the person to ask. But the pigeon is large compared to the little ones ... but delightful colours - cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteHi Hilary, it has been confirmed that I was right. Hope you have a good remainder to the week Diane
DeleteBeautiful bird...Great series
ReplyDeleteThanks for the visit and the comment, much appreciated. Have a good day Diane
DeleteYes, it's a Stonechat. There have been good numbers in our area this week, returning birds and about 15-20 in all. Looks like you had part of the wave there Diane. Woodpigeons are very big I agree. They are also heavy and strong so I dread catching and accidental one in a mist net as they always prove a handful. Something of a waste of a ring too when invariably they are shot by a farmer a few miles away! Have a good week, and don't worry, Spring is Near.
ReplyDeleteThanks Phil, I am glad I was right with my ID, I have a few other distant photos which I cannot work out at at all! I am amazed that these two Wood Pigeons have hung around here for so long with all the hunting that goes on here!!
DeleteI hope you are right and that spring is near but we still have April showers to get through as well yet. Rain is forecast for days yet in March. Keep well and I hope you can get our ringing. Diane
Such pretty birds, even if they are 'common'!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy to see you at 'My Corner of the World' this week!
My Corner of the World
When the weather is as bad as it has been here, I generally go back to my South African photos, but this week I forgot all about the blog so it had to be the only current photos I could get!! Happy weekend, Diane
DeleteWe have a lot of pigeons in here, have a lovely day☺
ReplyDeleteI am glad we only seem to have the two or the little birds would have no seed left!! Happy weekend, Diane
DeleteI think the pigeons are so cute.
ReplyDeleteSo long as they only stay as two I am happy for them to visit, anymore and they would eat all the seed and none left for the little ones. Cheers Diane
DeletePigeons are pretty much the only birds I see where I live!!! Awesome photos!
ReplyDeleteHere they get hunted so we only seem to have the two that live obviously close by and they keep away from the hunters!! Have a great weekend Diane
DeleteLove all your birds today...and especially the color pattern on the pigeon.
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining us today at I'd Rather B Birdin...it's always appreciated!
Thanks Anni for hotsting, I appreciate it. Diane
DeleteIt's a shame you are still having poor weather Diane.I guess I score more species because I live very near the coast and a mix of habitats. But we do often get strong winds! Enjoy your week.
ReplyDeleteSorry it has taken me a while to get back to this comment, since then we have had some lovely weather but it is raining today!! Cheers Diane
Deletebeautiful shots of birds well know to me. I did see the first chaffinch returning yesterday. Good news as I see it. :)
