A visit to South Africa again...

My thanks go once again to Christelle who was lucky enough to get this fabulous visitor to her garden.

Green wood hoopoe (Phoeniculus purpureus) formally known as the red-billed wood hoopoe.

Hopefully, it is looking for a nesting site 😊

    1. Very interesting bird Hilary and how delighted I would be to see it in in my garden. Christelle only has a small camera but it has an amazing zoom and it is very clear. Keep well, cheers Diane

    1. I guess if you want to get termites out of a mound the beak is very useful, think that is their favourite diet. Have a good day and stay safe. Diane

  3. That is a good one Diane. It looks like it has been constructed from bits of Glossy Starling and our Common Chough - Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax.

I think our temperatures must be close to yours at the moment - a week of thirties spoilt only by the occasional thunderstorms. Hope your weekend is good.

    1. It is an interesting bird! We have had 40mm of rain this week after what seemed like months of drought, Thankfully though it is still pretty warm. I got up at 2am this morning to disconnect the Wifi, the thunder was very loud and right overhead! Keep safe Diane

  11. Bonjour Diane.

Diane

  17. Shame you're not getting much birding done Diane. Never mind, that hoopoe is worth lots of looks. Sounds like you have lots of other stuff to keep you busy 😉.
