Christelle's husband taking photos with the large lens. Christelle has a very small Canon that takes great photos
Breeding Summer visitor.
Resident year-round
The red mark is where the bird was seen and in July, South Africa's winter.
The bush shrike has nice colors. The African Crake’s feathers have a pleasing pattern. Nice captures.
ReplyDeleteChristelle takes some great photos. Thanks for the comment Diane
DeleteBeautiful photos. I wish I could afford the equipment to really get serious about photography.
ReplyDeletePenny, Christelle has a very small hand held canon that has a great zoom on it and it was not expensive. She has taken some amazing photos. keep well Diane
DeleteThat is an exceptional Crake series!! Gorgeous, colorful shrike. I wish I could lay down like that with my camera...I'd never be able to get up!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Diane, for sharing with us!!
Thanks Anni for the comment and for hosting. Haha, getting older makes things a little more difficult, getting down is not problem but a hoist would be convenient to get back up again!! Keep safe Diane
DeleteI find it difficult to equate South Africa with winter. My concept of winter is tarnished with snow of course.
ReplyDeleteIt snows in Africa as well!! I have made snowmen in Johannesburg before now. Keep safe Diane
DeleteHi Diane - lovely seeing Chriselle's photos ... just love seeing African birds ... so am grateful you post up for us ... the African Crake is especially interesting ... cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteHilary I am lucky that Christelle can take such great photos with her small camera, even more lucky that she sends them to me and allows me to put them on my blog. Take care cheers Diane
DeleteTwo very good looking but quite different species there Diane. I'm a sucker for shrikes but hardly ever see crakes unless you count Moorhens. I hope your friends are staying safe with all the bad news coming out of South Africa.
ReplyDeleteThanks Phil, they are in the Eastern Cape which has not been quite so badly affected but I have other friends right in the thick of it all. Not good news. Take care Diane
DeleteSouth Africa is on our to-visit dream list.
ReplyDeleteIt is a stunning place and I love the the country and the wild life there. Not a good place to be at present though with the unrest and the COVID. We will return though as soon as it is possible. Cheers Diane
DeleteGood to heart that at least some of your friends are safe Diane. I hope you will be able to return to South Africa soon but you must be careful with your timing and keep your ear to the ground.
ReplyDeletePhil we would love to go and see our friends in RSA but I think travelling far will be a while yet and hopefully we will not be too old by the time that happens!! Keep safe Diane
Bisous Diane
