I went for a walk today and the sky was alive with the sound of cranes calling. Most photos were far away and not the best, but it is so worth the sight one sees in the sky
Common Crane (Grus grus)...
They were milling around a lot as there were several small groups, I suspect they were waiting for all to get together before moving on again.
and a little closer and in formation.
I also saw a starling, very far away and up quite high
Common starling (Sturnus vulgaris),
and a few wood pigeons in flight
Common wood pigeon (Columba palumbus)

DeleteThe sight and sound of Cranes must have given you a lift. Spring is around the corner even if all the rain tries to deceive us. Hope it bucks up soon for all of us.
ReplyDeleteAlways cheering to see and hear them going North but I find it depressing in November when they are going the other way!! Raining again as I type this after a couple of days of sun and even butterflies!!
DeleteEnjoy your week Diane
yes, it is a great sight to see the migrating birds. But it seems a bit early to me. Cranes usually show up in Sweden in early april. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteChecking back over the years, the cranes all seem to start flying overhead around 12 February, so no earlier than usual. I have heard them for a few days but they have been too far to photograph. Thanks for the comment have a good day Diane
