Thanks once again to Christelle for these three photos of the Kingfisher taken in her garden on the South coast of South Africa.
Brown-hooded kingfisher (Halcyon albiventris)...
As above...
As above.
Back home, the Little Owl I am seeing almost daily (Athene noctua)...
For those that commented last week about possible nesting under the tiles on the side of the barn, the space you see next to the beam here is where they appear to have nested. Sadly no youngsters though it seems.
Standing on the lamp post watching all the bugs go by....
I have never seen them up here at all this year but I guess they have a very good view across the field.
Out walking yesterday I saw this grey heron (Ardea cinerea) on the opposite side of the dam to where I was so not the best photo...
Seconds later it was in the air and it disappeared.

Incredible ... all your birds. They are none we see here of course, so all the better for me! Thanks so much for allowing us birders to drop in and enjoy your photos from I'd Rather B Birdin'.
ReplyDeleteI am finding bird photography difficult at present other than the owl which is a big bonus. Christelle is a help when she takes photos for me. Thanks for hosting and take care Diane
DeleteThat kingfisher has such a pretty beak. The owl is a beauty. How I would love to see one!
ReplyDeleteMarie the owl is being very accommodating at the moment which I am enjoying, long may it last :-) Keep well Diane
DeleteWonderful photos. I bet it is so much fun to watch that cute little owl. Hope you've had a great weekend so far.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your visit and your comment much appreciated. Have a good day, Diane
DeleteHi Diane - great to see ... Chriselle's photos are lovely - the kingfisher is a king ... while little owl looks like he wants to descend and have a cuddle ... gorgeous - as too the disappearing stork. Thanks - Hilary
ReplyDeleteThank you Hilary, I am really enjoying the owl at present as I am not seeing many other birds, or not easily to photograph ones anyway Hope that all is well with you and that you are keeping safe. Have a good day Diane
DeleteNe güzeller:)
ReplyDeleteTeşekkür ederim. İyi günler. Diane
DeleteThe kingfisher is so pretty with the rich browns and bright blue accent feathers! ... and you know I love the Little Owls. I am guessing that it is a diurnal owl, like their adorable lookalikes, the Burrowing Owls that we see in Florida.
ReplyDeleteI love Kingfishers and I seldom see them not being near water. Yes the Little Owls do most of their hunting early morning or evening, or if cool anytime of the day. Stay safe Diane
DeleteGreat photos. I really like the kingfisher!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the visit and the comment, much appreciated. Hope you are having a good day, take care Diane
DeleteChristelle's Kingfisher shots are wonderful, Diane, but will never melt my heart like the sight of your Little Owls does! Thank you for brightening a very cold and wet day!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes - - - Richard
I would love to see a kingfisher but very little chance around here. On the other hand I love the owls and they are my favourite bird here in France. Wait until you see my next photos of the owl, they were the closest they have ever been 🦉
DeleteTake great care and stay safe both of you. Diane
Coucou Diane,
Diane
That's a really nice Kingfisher Diane. With a bill that size I reckon it can grab some rather tasty fish and frogs. The owls are doing you proud posing up like that all the time. The weather has been unbelievably bad. The other morning at 0700 I had four layers on top - shirt, 2 jumpers and a jacket. Woolly hat too! Stay warm.
ReplyDeleteI agree Phil it is a pretty Kingfisher. The owls are around most of the time again now. When they disappeared for a month I presume they were nesting but I wonder what happened that there was no youngsters. The weather her has also been very odd. Only the last week has it actually warmed up a bit!
DeleteTake care and keep well Diane.
Such a lovely variety of creature! The kingfisher has some wonderful colors.
ReplyDeleteIt's great to see you at 'My Corner of the World this week! Thanks for linking up with us.
They are amazing!
ReplyDeleteHi Betty, yes a very pretty Kingfisher, I wish I could see some around here but I have nowhere close by that there is likely to be Kingfishers. Thanks for hosting. Take care Diane
ReplyDeleteWe have lots of kingfishers in Australia too.
