We were both in our barn when I said to Nigel listen, the Little Owls are calling to each other. Nigel commented that one was right overhead, and sure enough there it was, one on our barn roof once again after what seems like months to me without seeing them but hearing them from time to time,
Little owl (Athene noctua).
Dunnock (Prunella modularis).
Great spotted woodpecker (Dendrocopos major), male.
Eurasian blue tit (Cyanistes caeruleus)...
As above,..

Wonder what is going on down there??

The owl is a cutie. It must be good to have it back at the barn. The woodpecker is reminiscent of those here, the downy and hairy ones. I’ve never seen a dunnock before. The blue tit is taking a bow.
ReplyDeleteI was delighted to see it again. The dunnock is very timid and a rare sighting here. Hope your week is a good one. Diane
DeleteWhat adorable creatures! Your owl looks like the only owl we have here in New Zealand!
ReplyDeleteYour link at 'My Corner of the World' is greatly appreciated!! I'm glad to see you this week!
Thanks for hosting. The Little Owl is delightful. Keep well Diane
DeleteThat little owl wins the prize this week! How cute! Love seeing what you've spotted there! Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteOh it always wins the prize for me if I see it. Delightful pair around here. Have a great seek, Diane
DeleteMust be wonderful having barn owls so close. Enjoyed your photos.
ReplyDeleteI wish we did have Barn Owls, but the Little Owl seems to like our barn so that is good enough for me.
DeleteStay safe, Diane
Hi Diane - stunning shots ... and I'm so pleased to see your happiness at Little Owls return ... they are delightful. All the best with all your delicious looking produce gathering in ... cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteHilary I was over the moon to see it, although I knew that they have not been far away as I have heard them. Still busy in the kitchen but slowing down a bit now thank goodness. Keep well and stay safe, Diane
DeleteThe shot of the little owl is wonderful! Enjoyed seeing all the other birds as well.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the visit and the comment, the owls are such a delight. Have a great week and keep safe, Diane
DeleteBlue tit is sooo cute, one of my fav birds!
ReplyDeleteNatalie they are probably our friendliest bird, the rest are very nervous. The Blue Tit is often at our window looking in. Keep safe and have a good week Diane
DeleteWhile I'm here in Greece I'm not seeing the Little Owls. There's one just across the field but it seems they are very nocturnal. Just a call or two during the day. Strange but there are no Blue Tits here, just lots of Greats.
ReplyDeletePhil our Blue Tits are only just returning to the garden, we never see them in summer! It would be great if you got to see the Little Owls there. Ours seem to be out at all hours. Have a great time there, keep safe and enjoy. Diane
DeleteSo pleased that you managed to get a great shot of one of your Little Owls, Diane - fabulous! Your other garden bird shots are beautiful too.
ReplyDeleteTake care and stay safe - - - Richard
Hi Richard, it certainly made my week/month for me seeing them close by again. They do at least call often enough for me to know that there are at least two around.
DeleteVery best wishes to you both, Diane
Wonderful - its been a while since I have seen an owl of any sort. We get frogmouths in the garden at night sometimes, but they are more closely related to nightjars (although lots of people think they are owls!)
ReplyDeleteCheers - Stewart M - Melbourne
I have not seen much of the owls recently but I hear them often. Hope all is well in your part of the world. keep safe Diane
DeleteThat woodpecker is certainly ornate! Nice to see the Little Owl. We have several pairs of Screech Owls in our immediate neighborhood. They tend to call the most before sunrise and after sunset.
ReplyDeleteThe Little owls are pretty active any time of day or night I hear them regularly. Not often I get to see the woodpeckers though I hear them often as well. Keep safe and well, Diane
DeleteOh, I love your capture of the owl.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the visit, so love seeing the owls though I hear them far more often than I see them! Cheers Diane
