My thanks once again to Christelle who took these photos of the African Green pigeon. I gather it is quite a rare sighting, so she was lucky to get so many photos and we are lucky to be able to see them.

I find green birds fascinating. Hidden among the trees for sure.
ReplyDeleteApparently these birds are very shy and not often seen in public places. Christelle was lucky that she could creep up on them with out causing them to be alarmed. Stay safe, Diane
DeleteHi Diane - beautiful shots of the African Green Pigeon - very striking ... and I see they've a huge range ... delightful to see - thank you. Stay safe - very blustery here and chilly! All the best - Hilary
ReplyDeleteHi Hilary, I gather numbers are falling but I do not know why. They are shy birds and not often in public places.
DeleteStill raining here! Take care, Diane
Their eyes are hypnotizing! And oh so beautiful color. Love this bird species, a new one for me. Thanks for linking in and sharing. Stay Safe Diane.
ReplyDeleteSo much more interesting in green :-))))) You keep safe as well, Diane
Deletetake away the colour and that could be a Wood Pigeon. Similar size, structure and jizz. It has great colouration don't you think? And, many birders find pigeons boring but I don't as I think they are very strong characters and of course, very adaptive. Unless you count Passenger Pigeon in there.
ReplyDeleteSoon to be Spring Diane. Is your glass half-full? Mine is.
Spring cannot come quickly enough for me but the problem is it goes so quickly as does summer. Winter seems to last forever!! Take care Diane
DeleteHe is certainly a healthy looking bird!
