18/05/2020 Only birds seen around the garden or overhead.

Common Chaffinch male (Fringilla coelebs)...

As above female...

As above another male.

House sparrow male (Passer domesticus)...

As above female.

European greenfinch male (Chloris chloris)...

As above female...

As above male...

As above...

As above.

Common Blackbird (Turdus merula) taking a bath...

I think this is a young bird...

As above...

As above...

That feels better.

Common buzzard (Buteo buteo) seen overhead.  There were 5 of them playing.  Presumably, parents and 3 well brought up youngsters, quite a feat.  The most I could get in one shot was only 3.

As above.

  1. Hi Diane - wonderful photos ... always love looking at them. Pretty males, as well as the more useful females ... while the young blackbird was a delight to see ... such fun - all the best - Hilary

  2. The young Blackbird on the statue made me laugh. This is when "bird watching" really comes into play. I know birders who wouldn't dream of taking a picture of a common thing like a Blackbird. Sad but true.

Those owls are giving you the run around aren't they? We are out of lockdown now and soon back to normal I think. But the Government will never admit they have made serious mistakes in following poor scientific advice and over reacting. It's not a popular view I know.

  6. Nice pictures. We had a sparrow-hawk flash through the garden today - we dont get many bird of prey in our neck of the woods.

    Hope you are staying well.
