South African birds again, this time with thanks to Patrick Miller.

Bar-throated apalis (Apalis thoracica).

Dark-backed weaver (Ploceus bicolor)...

Jackal buzzard (Buteo rufofuscus).

Pearl-breasted swallow (Hirundo dimidiata).

Collared sunbird (Hedydipna collaris).

Wing-snapping cisticola (Cisticola ayresii)...

  3. Hi Diane. Each one of those would be new to me. Although I've been to Africa and the Canaries where there are some African birds I scratched the surface of the wealth and depth African birds. I need to check how many species in Africa as a whole.It would be a lifetime's work to see them all !! That cisticola is really smart and it seems a lot easier to photograph than our European Zitting Cisticola (Yes, it zits. Usually from deep cover). Enjoy your search for the owls. Try a call from You Tube on your phone loudspeaker.

    1. Phew how many species in Africa, there are a huge number, way beyond ever hoping to see them all! I have seen the owl the last two evenings I think the lighter hours may be helping, whatever I am delighted. Take care Diane
