The return of the Little Owl at last.

I have been really worried that I have not seen or heard the Little Owls for some time.  Over the past fortnight, I have again heard them calling but still no sign of them though the foliage in the trees is thick.  Suddenly the last two nights, one of them has appeared back on the barn rooftops.  Not our own barn, but on the neighbours so not as close as I would have liked but I am not complaining.

Monday night 25 May
Little Owl (Athene noctua)...

Caught in flight ...

and almost caught in flight!

Landing on another barn,

 Tuesday 26 May
On yet another barn closeby being watched cautiously by a Black Redstart (Phoenicurus ochruros)...

As above though the Black Redstart obviously feels it is not in danger.

  2. That's a first for me, and probably lots of other people. Black Redstart and Little Owl in the same frame. I wonder why at this time of year you are still seeing just the one owl. Shame you can't tempt the owls onto your own property.

    1. They are all around us, too many barns and choices. A little owl nesting box might work but they are not cheap and too complicated for me to build one. Interesting seeing the two birds on the roof together. Have a good day and stay safe, Diane

  3. Bonsoir Diane.
La colocation avec le rougequeue noir est attendrissante :-).
Heureusement que tu les as revu !
Tu n'as pas trop chaud ces jours ci ? Nous oui.
    Bises et bonne nuit :-)

  6. What a delight to see! We only have one owl here in New Zealand but it looks a lot like the one you capture!

Your link is a great addition to 'My Corner of the World' this week!

    1. Hi Betty, your Tasmanian spotted owl is also a small owl, so yes probably quite similar.

Have a good week and keep well. Diane
