Some more of the photos from our November trip to South Africa.

Southern yellow-billed hornbill (Tockus leucomelas) ...

Yellow-billed hornbills feed mainly on the ground, where they forage for seeds, small insects, spiders and scorpions.

White-backed Vulture. (Gyps africanus).

Burchell's starling (Lamprotornis australis) or Burchell's glossy-starling. Sadly this was taken in the shade so you cannot see the true gloss.

Cape glossy starling (Lamprotornis nitens).

Crested francolin (Dendroperdix sephaena)...

As above.

South African ostrich (Struthio camelus australis) male.

Southern white-crowned shrike (Eurocephalus anguitimens)...

As above.

Saddle-billed stork (Ephippiorhynchus senegalensis)...

As above.

Egyptian geese (Alopochen aegyptiaca) .

I think this is a yellow-billed kite (Milvus aegyptius).

Here and there!

My friend Christelle is taking photos at the present time in Botswana and these are a few of her shots, but not to be totally outdone, there are four at the end taken in and around our garden in France.

Burchell's coucal (Centropus burchellii)...

African darter (Anhinga rufa), sometimes called the snakebird...

The White-browed robin-chat (Cossypha heuglini), also known as Heuglin's robin.

White-crowned lapwing, white-headed lapwing, white-headed plover or white-crowned plover (Vanellus albiceps)...

See above.

Back home in France not to be outdone by the above....

Common wood pigeon (Columba palumbus) on the house roof...

as above on the cable over the house.

Little Owl (Athene noctua) on the neighbour's barn, the moon was just an extra bonus...

27/07/2019 Too hot for the birds this week in France so a return visit to Botswana

Yellow-billed hornbill (Tockus leucomelas)...

Southern ground hornbill (Bucorvus leadbeateri).  Yes, they spend a lot of time on the ground, but they do fly and they do roost in trees.

Crested Francolin (Francolinus sephaena)

Swainson’s francolin (Pternistis swainsonii)

African jacana (Actophilornis africanus)

Pale chanting goshawk (Melierax canorus).

Lesser grey shrike (Lanius minor)

African darter (Anhinga rufa)

African pied wagtail (Motacilla aguimp)

I will be in South Africa in October and November and during that time I will not be blogging,  I hope though to return with many new photos 😉

Posts will also be a bit sparce when we have visitors for 3 weeks as from 18 August.
