Rubbish weather and a series from the archives!

I just enjoyed this series of photos of what I believe to be young Common Redstart.

Common redstart - (Phoenicurus phoenicurus).

Looking a little bedraggled after having had fun in the water.

These little birds winter over in Africa...

but return to Europe to breed in summer.

As I said these are photos from my archives but they should have returned again by now...

Hopefully, I will be seeing some around very soon....

Apart from the Stilt and the Heron all photos have been taken in our garden.

Eurasian wren (Troglodytes troglodytes).

January.

Eurasian blue tit (Cyanistes caeruleus).

February.

European greenfinch (Chloris chloris).

March.

Great spotted woodpecker (Dendrocopos major).

April.

Eurasian Magpie or Common Magpie (Pica pica).

May.

Black-winged stilt (Himantopus himantopus).

June.

Eurasian hoopoe (Upupa epops).

July.

Common redstart (Phoenicurus phoenicurus).

August.

A young Black redstart (Phoenicurus ochruros).

September.

Grey heron (Ardea cinerea).

October.

Great tit (Parus major).

November.

Dunnock (Prunella modularis)

December.

European robin (Erithacus rubecula).

Christmas greetings cannot go without a robin so this is to also wish you all a Happy Christmas and a fabulous New Year.  Happy birding in 2019.

I am off to the UK on Monday until the end of January.  As I will be, with my husband, full time caring for my FIL who has Alzheimers, I have no idea if I will have to time to blog before my return to France in February 2019.  I will try to look in on your blogs if possible.

Birds of Europe - Mostly seen in the garden, you will recognise the pot holder that they use as a bath!

As always, I hope that my identification is correct, please let me know if there should be any mistakes.

Common wood pigeon (Columba palumbus).

French name - Pigeon ramier.

House sparrows - both females - (Passer domesticus) and a Eurasian blue tit (Cyanistes caeruleus).

French Names - Moineau domestique and Mésange bleue.

Eurasian jay (Garrulus glandarius). Seen in the Dordogne though they are local as well.

French name - Geai des chênes.

As above.

Eurasian siskin (Spinus spinus).

French name - Tarin des aulnes

House sparrow - male - (Passer domesticus).

Common redstart (Phoenicurus phoenicurus).

French name - Rougequeue à front blanc.

As above looking a little bedraggled after its bath. 😉
