DeleteLovely. The birds can cool down in their pool. I wish I had a pool for myself, lol. The birds didn't come to my bird bath much this summer. But the other day I saw a new bird come to the 'pool'. It was a house finch. It was lovely but I didn't have much water in the bird bath and by the time I got my camera the bird was gone.
ReplyDeleteIt is worth keeping the water levels up even if there are only a few birds. Also if it is very hot the insects need water as well. I had to look House finch up, not a bird we have here. Pity you did not get a photo - next time.

ReplyDeleteThe Goldfinch is very pretty. We used to have a lot of them but they are now only seen as a rarity!! Very hot here but I can always handle too hot easier than I can too cold!! Keep safe Diane

DeleteIt's rather strange that for now I'm seeing zero Goldfinch in the garden. I think they've had a poor breeding season. Needless to say, no Black Redstarts either!
ReplyDeleteWe used to have masses of Goldfinches and Greenfinches now they are quite rare!! A number of people here are talking about how the populations of breeds are falling :-(((( Hope all is well over there.

DeleteDiane. Your Black Redstart is really Black. We generally see them as migrant birds of autumn or winter and then mostly first winter birds or females each with very little colour. As for the House Sparrows. yes, we could do with some French blood in our local stock. Or wine!

When we arrived for the first time at our house here in France the very first bird to go on my bird list was a Black Redstart, They were nesting in our barn and making a mess everywhere. I hod to stop up the top of the door where they were coming in. There was nesting materiel over everything and of course the usual droppings. We could never have used the barn for anything with them there though it was sad to chase them away. They have since nested in all sorts of odd places including on our garden tools in the tool shed!!. They are fun to watch. Keep well Diane
