01/11/2021 Christelle's trip to Addo National Park, Eastern Cape, South Africa

I have masses of photos from my last two trips to bird national parks here in France but I still have not had time to go through them all and work out IDs.  My thanks again to Christelle for taking these photos and sending them to me with all the details that I require.

Bokmakierie (Telophorus zeylonus)  A bushshrike.

As above.

Cape Longclaw (Macronyx capensis). You can see the longclaws clearly in this photo...

  7. The birds here in NZ are a bit boring compared to the ones you find :)

  8. Hello Diane. The Bokmakierie is a very striking and colourful bird indeed. So is the Cape Longclaw, both species I have never seen. The way the Bokmakierie is posing suggests it has a very loud and distinctive song too, one that would carry across the landscape?

Maybe you can catch up with your own pictures soon but I do like to see these birds new to me, even if I can't see them for real.

    1. It is an interesting bird and although I seldom ever saw one, I heard them quite often and especially two of them calling to each other. Its most common call is “bok-bok-mak-kik”, the origin of its common name.
I hope all is well, Diane
