Seen from a distance......

From a distance there is harmonyAnd it echoes through the land
It's the voice of hope
It's the voice of peace
It's the voice of every man.

Written by Julie Gold and sung by Bette Midler

The Common Cranes (Grus grus) were calling and circling for a while over the house, obviously waiting for more to catch up....

Suddenly more arrived and they all turned in the same direction; North...

I zoomed in as they moved into formation...

I did not have time to change to the wide angle lens, but here is as many as I could pick up with my telephoto lens, there were thousands.  The flights have been going over the house for most of February.

Out for a walk yesterday this was the best shots I could get of the Common Buzzards (Buteo buteo) circling above me.

This murder of what I believe to be Carrion crows (Corvus corone corone) was on the opposite side of the field from where I was walking.

Again this wagtail was on the opposite side of the fence and I could not get any closer.

Not the best photos, it was bobbing around, but I think it is a Grey Wagtail (Motacilla cinerea).

  5. Unbelievable sight of so many cranes gathering and then flying in perfect precision! If only we humans were as intelligent as the birds and animals of our planet. Happy new week Diane ✨

    1. Oh so very true Grace, generally speaking I much prefer animals to humans. If only humans would learn to only kill for food instead of sport or other stupid beliefs it would be a much better planet. It really is a magical sight to see the cranes in flight. Take care Diane

  9. How fabulous to see (and hear?) that many Cranes, Diane - a truly amazing spectacle. Your Grey Wagtail is beautiful. I'm hoping that we get our usual visit to our garden by one this year - if we don't it will be the first time for about ten years, but the conditions behind our garden have changed dramatically. Fingers are crossed.

    Mu best wishes - - - Richard

    1. Richard I just love seeing the cranes fly over it is spectacular, and yes we hear them before we see them they are very noisy. I see the rare wagtail in our garden but not often sadly. I think we have so may sparrows that they chase everything else away!!! This morning there must have been at least 50 sparrows under the feeder! We also have quite a lot of Blue and Great tits but they are of course generally at different feeders. Sad about the conditions behind your garden, hard to predict the things that might happen!

Keep well and have a good remainder to the week, cheers Diane
