A young Eurasian blue tit (Cyanistes caeruleus) trying to work out what water was for...
Getting its feet wet...
Inspecting this strange liquid...
splish splash...
Still not too sure.
A young common blackbird (Turdus merula) also experimenting...
Looking around...
Maybe it looks better this way up...
After checking out the next bowl of water it just gave up!
Then along comes a young Great tit (Parus major)...
taking a look...
hopping about...
and finally giving up. Think this is a young female.
A common wood pigeon (Columba palumbus) looked in.
Of course, the House sparrow (Passer domesticus) looked in - male...
and female.
and then to make my week this evening the Little Owl (Athene noctua) turned up on our barn roof again
Joining up with
and
Owls love that spot. Great photos of the birds.
ReplyDeleteHi Marie, After listening to the owls for the past number of years and hardly ever seeing them, the past month has been a delight. I get excited every time I see one. Take care Diane
DeleteThat last photo, the owl...it has stolen my heart! All the birds at the feeder...a good day indeed!
ReplyDeleteHave a beautiful week ahead, and thanks for joining us at I'd Rather B Birdin'.
Hi Anni, it has stolen my heart as well, it has been an absolute delight over the past couple of weeks. Thanks for visiting, Diane
DeleteSo many different types!
ReplyDeleteWe have a fairly good selection around the garden but the owl is the star of the show for me. Cheers Diane
DeleteWow ...you had amazing bird luck right in your own yard! The Little Owl is fantastic of course, but as well I love how you captured the “personalities” of the birds at your water stations, the first tit in particular, I love his expressions.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sallie, it was an interesting week seeing the younger birds around. Keep well Diane
DeleteHi Diane - love the header ... and then your photos of the birds giving us detail to look at - love it and that Little Owl is a delight - cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteThanks Hilary good to see you back on my blogs, glad you enjoyed the feathered friends in our garden. Keep well Diane
DeleteThanks for the visit Agnes and for the kind comment. Hope all is well, Diane
ReplyDeleteYou are quite right to have water at your feeding station Diane. Lots of us forget but it's very important to do so.
ReplyDeleteI top it up several times a day Phil. Not only the birds are enjoying it, but the insects and lizards are also drinking from it. Keep well Diane
DeleteNot being picky, hopefully helpful. In Great Tits, the black down the breast extends across the belly and to join each legs, in females as per your your photo. Have a great Saturday.
ReplyDeleteI thought as it was young the black was probably male but I was guessing. I know the female has a much narrower black front then the male does when adult. I bow to your superior knowledge though and will change it on the blog. Hope you have a good weekend Diane. Thanks.
DeleteBeautiful pictures series
ReplyDeleteLove that Common Blackbird on the edge of the plate.
Thanks Tabib for the visit and the comment, much appreciated. Have a good day, Diane
