Guess who has been visiting again - Little owl (Athene noctua)....
I managed to sneak a little closer this time.
Mute swans (Cygnus olor)...
as above...
The ugly duckling - only one youngster hope it survives.
Probably two Mallard females (Anas platyrhynchos).
I think this is a Pied wagtail (Motacilla alba)...
as above...
As above.

The ugly duckling is the cutest and yes, I hope it thrives! Love the owl photos...they always have such personality!
ReplyDeleteI also love owls that are certainly different form the average bird. Hopefully with only one youngster to look after the parents will be doubly aggressive to predators. Have a good day Diane
DeleteLovely bird shots Diane. How great to get closer to the owl and that little duckling is just too sweet. Have a wonderful month of July!
ReplyDeleteAh but that ugly duckling will one day be a beautiful swan. I do love our local owls. You have a good month also Penny. Take care Diane
DeleteAwesone photos! I don't get to see these here in USA so, a bit of feathered 'eye candy' for me today. Love the fact your owl has returned!
ReplyDeleteAs always thanks for sharing your photos & expertise with us at I'd Rather B Birdin' this week.
Thanks Anni, the owl is generally only heard and not seen so I have been more than lucky the last couple of weeks. Seldom I get a chance to see birds near water, so the swans and the wagtail were a change for me as well. Love sharing with you. Have a great week, Diane
DeleteI’ve never seen a wagtail before. You introduce me to such wonderful new friends, Diane.
ReplyDeleteI do not see them often here but they are around. Enjoy your day Diane
DeleteThat baby swan is adorable!
ReplyDeleteIt is very cute, hard to believe what it will grow into. Keep well Diane
DeleteI think you made a new friend there Diane. By now, I'm surprised that bu July you haven't seen evidence of a family? I find that sometimes Little Owls can be quite confiding, especially the young ones. Looks like the wagtails have young too.
ReplyDeleteHave a good weekend.
Phil I am sure there is a family around as I hear calling coming from all directions. The one that I see I am certain though is always the same one. The barn overlooks a field where they put sheep and I am sure that the insect life there is excellent. Yes the wagtail certainly had a mouthful. Hope all is well, Diane
