  1. Lol. Those assistants are quite helpful I see.

I recognize the magpie now but have never seen one in nature.

    1. Hi Hilary, I thought that photo of Patrick with the dogs was well worth sharing. Not much of a selection at home of birds but we never go anywhere anymore. Keep well, Cheers Diane

  4. Have you noticed how your garden birds are in such good condition? All ready for the breeding season. The best lookers get the girl or vice versa. It is interesting Diane that you have noted more Goldfinches and Greenfinches recently. i think that some of these finches migrate further south than we imagine. How else would they appear at this time, and who wouldn't want to spend the winter near the Mediterranean Sea?

    1. Ye you are right winter at the Med would be great but not at present with COVID around. The amount of food 'our' birds get through they should be in good condition!! Take care Diane

  5. Hi Diane,
So you're not often on FB and I am not often on Blogger! It makes it difficult to "meet" in between!
Lovely photos of your garden feathered friends!
I am actually near Arcachon at Le Teich until next thursday and at the bird preserve daily... Just in case you would enjoy a day out watching some birds and so we could meet at long last! Like you I can't wait to go back to Africa and I am planning a trip to Tanzania for february next year and probably Namibia and Botswana too!
Enjoy your weekend and hope to see you soon!

    1. Carine there is no chance we can go to Arcachon we would not be happy staying in accommodation and with the curfew a day trip is not a good idea. In fact we have been nowhere since February 2020. We had to cancel our trip around Italy, I an only thankful that we went to RSA at the end of 2019, not sure when we will make it again. I have had 2 vaccinations but Nigel will only get his second jab in May sometime. He is younger than me and only managed to get his first vaccination because of underlying conditions. Keep safe, warm hugs, Diane

  8. Loved the "birding" dogs. That's priceless. And all your birds are glorious...my favorite is the Tit perched on the elephant.

    1. We have the two nesting in a neighbours tree, the first time they appeared was last year, never seen them before. They are a pain as they pinch the eggs from the nesting small birds. Keep safe Diane

  11. Your Magpies are more accommodating than our own. I only need to go near the window and fly off. Same with Jackdaws. Around here all of the crow family are lumped together by the farming/ shooting fraternity, hence the birds are very scared of humans. Thanks for a first! A Blue For riding an elephant 🐘. Your photography pal has keen helpers there.

    1. Phil they are not really accommodating, they seldom let me get near, this was taken standing far back from the window and they were quite close to the house. Always a first of something new 😊. Keep well Diane.

    1. Thanks Pam and sorry about the delay in posting, just too much to do and little time for the computer. Birds are not easy, they need lots of patience really of which I am lacking! Hope you are well Diane

  15. Hello Diane. I hope you are all keeping well. I am reading all sorts of horror stories from British online newspapers about the virus in France and other parts of the EU. can't blame you for enjoying the weather and staying garden centered.

    1. Phil we have just not been out now for 14 months other than fortnightly shopping, or Dr and Dentist. If only every one would do the same maybe there would be some COVID control. Too many disregarding rules and partying!!! Thank goodness we have a garden!! Keep safe Diane

  16. Belíssimas fotos de belíssimos exemplares da avifauna portuguesa.
Se as fotos não foram tiradas em Portugal, as aves representadas são bastante comuns em Portugal.
