09/05/2021 Just a few of the regulars.

It s over a month since I have posted here.  I have spent quite a lot of time in the garden trying to get flower beds, and vegetable gardens ship-shape, and generally the birdlife has been few.  Spring is obviously in the air and they have other things on their minds.  With lockdown, we have hardly left the house (and garden) other than to do our fortnightly shop.

Please Note if you follow me by email the old feeder is closing down. I will be updating it to a new feeder very soon.

Common wood pigeon (Columba palumbus)...

Eurasian collared dove (Streptopelia decaocto)...

  1. Wow, beautiful birds. I especially liked the 2nd photo from the top! Very artistically composed.
This pandemic has really played havoc on everyday life, hasn't it?

Thanks so much for sharing your birdlife with us this weekend. And stay well.

    1. Thanks Anni, I also like that second shot. I am now really getting fed up with living in lockdown, I think France has been one of the worst for locking us all away!! Keep well Diane

  3. Hello Diane. Your lockdown sounds worse than our own. But there's a lot of satisfaction in getting the garden ship shape, especially in growing your own fruit and veg. And your garden birds are in fine shape at this time of year. The Woodpigeons are a constant in our own gardens, thirty years ago never to be glimpsed in gardens and now up there in the Top Ten of most, even in cities.

    1. Phil we have had so many restrictions. Not allowed to travel far, carrying of certificates, curfew, no visitors and it goes on and on. Still there is COVID around.
I am amazed there are so many Woodpigeons about as the French happily eat them. We have a pair nesting under the roof on one of our barns. There have only been the two for a few years so maybe one is sterile. I am hearing the Hoopoes, but I have only spotted one and suddenly the little owls have gone quiet so I guess they maybe sitting but I have no idea where the nest is this year. They have not been near last years spot.
      Keep safe Diane

    1. Hi Karen, Bird photos are quite hard to come by at present, winter is so much easier. I would love to go out and see what there is at other places besides the garden, but while we are in lockdown it is not possible. My friend in the Cape who takes photos for me there for my blog is not very well at present so I am not even getting photos from her. Things can only improve, or I hope so. Take care Diane

  6. Bonjour Diane,
J'aime énomément les pigeons ramiers. Ils font gros pépères dans l'herbe et sont tellement gentils que je ne comprends pas qu'on les tue et qu'on les mange !

  7. I'm sorry to hear that you are not able to get out Diane. It is distressing for many but more so for those who love the wild side of life. It's difficult to understand what the problem is in France when we can see it only through our British media that is not known for truth or impartiality. Keep your chin up as we say. And let's hope the weather improves for both of us.

    1. The weather is still foul and yes some things have been lifted. We can eat at restaurants outside. What fun in the rain. I wish we had somewhere where I could go easily to see birds, but really all I know of is 3 places and all about 3 ours drive away!! Keep safe Diane.

  8. Hi Diane - I thought I heard of a lifting of restrictions today ... but my communcation is all a-sunder at the moment. But I hope it is so ... we'll find out where we're going soon. At least you've the garden and nature around you ... love the various photos and particularly the Zimbabwean sculpture ...
All the best ... life will improve ... if my connectivity did I'd be happier ... been very slipshod in last week or so ... who knows why! Cheers Hilary

  9. Hi Hilary, some restriction lifted only. "This Wednesday May 19, 2021, France enters the second lockdown exit step, reopening terraces, stores, and some cultural places. As for curfew, it is moved to 9 p.m. Certificates are still necessary during curfew hours to say why you are out. Restaurants can only serve food if they have outside facilities"

It just keeps raining here so who want to sit in the rain to eat a meal!

Keep safe and I am far behind with posts. The kitchen seem to have taken over my life!!
    Very best wishes Diane

  10. Wood pigeons are really substantial - you can understand why many have ended up in pies!

  11. We just downloaded an app to identify the call of birds around our home. We often can only hear rather than see them in the city centre.
