Last November we were enjoying the fabulous weather in Nevis, so although my blog is about birds in South Africa and Europe, I thought I would reminisce and try to bring a bit of sun into our lives here on a cold, wet and windy day! Hope you enjoy.
Grey Kingbird (Tyrannus dominicensis) - an amazing Flycatcher....
As above.
Green-throated carib, (Eulampis holosericeus)...
As above...
as above.
Cattle Egret (Bubulcus ibis) - not a great photo but a record of having seen it.
Zenaida Dove (Zenaida aurita).
Brown Pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis)
I have a few more photos from Nevis, so probably there will be some more memories next week.
As always I hope my ID is correct, please let me know if I have it wrong!

DeleteBeautiful birds. I really love the Green Throated Carib. Enjoy the week ahead Diane :-)
ReplyDeleteFun seeing birds that I have never seen before, you have a good week also Paenny. Take care Diane
DeleteLovely pictures of some new (to me) birds and a couple offa I liar ones. The scientific name for the brown pelican always makes me laugh, because ‘accidentalis’ seems so appropriate. The way the plop into the water as if they were nosediving!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sallie I never thought of that but you are right they are not the most perfect divers but they get their food none the less. Glad there was some new ones for you as well as some familiar. Have a good week Diane
DeleteDiane how lovely pictures you always have! Have a nice week !
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Gloria, I hope you also have a good weekend. Diane
DeleteGreen-throated carib is so pretty. Great shots of the pelican diving.
ReplyDeleteThanks Pam, the pelicans were fascinating to watch. Have a great week Diane
DeleteHello! What an beautiful birds! The photo of Braun pelican is awesome.
ReplyDeleteThank you Anu,the pelicans are such interesting birds. Have a good remainder to the week. Diane
DeleteThat's a very exotic and warm place Diane. Shame that I get to see Pelicans only in zoos where their tameness does the species no favours. That's a great picture of pelicans doing what they do best of all. Have a great week - without our weather.
ReplyDeletePhil we are lucky that we have friends who have bought a house on Nevis so it was the perfect opportunity to visit 😊. I was lucky that I saw the Great White pelican in Africa last year in February, and then the Brown Pelican in November/December in Nevis. Since then we have not travelled due to a number of reasons and I am getting itchy feet. UK at Christmas is a trip we would prefer not to do but duty calls! Hope all is well despite your lousy weather, Diane
DeleteWonderful captures Diane.. the brown pelicans diving is definitely one of those 'I wish I'd taken it' shots ☺
ReplyDeleteLOL Grace if you take a trip to Nevis there are plenty of chances to take pelicans diving. I know though how much you hate flying but it is time you also took a trip to France. Have a good day Diane
DeleteI find it fascinating looking at all of the different types of beaks.
ReplyDeleteI agree with that comment there are so many different shapes and sizes. Have a good day, cheers Diane
DeleteGreen-throated carib - wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThe first and only time I have ever seen humming birds. Take care Diane
DeleteGreat shots! Beautiful light and color.
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda, I would loved to have spent more time photographing birds, but most I took were only in the garden of where we stayed. Keep well Diane
DeleteOuch! - I nearly missed this post, and the next one, Diane! Delighted that I've now found them -super photos of some wonderful birds. Nevis seems to be a great place to go. Best wishes - - - Richard
ReplyDeleteGlad you found it. Some very different birds seen in Nevis but sadly I did not get a lot of chance to see many other than in the garden of our friends, and a walk down to the beach. We also just missed a hatching of turtles, arrived at the beach to see thousands of fresh tracks of the hatchlings that had just made their way to the sea.
DeleteTake care Diane
