Record breaking temperatures and not much going on.

I spotted this Little Owl (Athene noctua) on a roof two houses away from us.

House sparrows (Passer domesticus) trying to keep cool...

as above but I get the feeling that I am being shouted at!!!...

In the rose bush next to the bath waiting for space...

and inspecting the roses.

Also waiting for space in the bath...

As above.

Saw these geese when out for a drive - well they are birds!

As above...

  1. I read all about the dangerously high record temperatures. Stay cool and safe. No luck in getting the owls to your own property yet?

    1. The last couple of days we have had a bit of cloud cover which has helped but still very warm. Luckily neither of us mind it (lived in Africa for too long!). Also a stone house is always cool. No little owls here yet but maybe one day, they at least visit occasionally. Enjoy your week Diane

  4. Wonderful photos of the birds splashing about. They are always so cute. I've heard of the heat wave in France and parts of Europe. I hope you are able to stay cool. Have a great week ahead.

    1. Hi Penny, it has been hot, but our stone built house is thankfully always cool although I do have a fan going upstairs in the office. It is good that the birds appreciate and find the water on these very hot days. You have a great weekend also. Diane

Oh yes, I can empathize with you and those temperatures...here too.

Thanks, as always, for sharing and linking up this week.

    1. LOL. Anni I heard a suspicious sound late last night, also at dusk, and there was a Little Owl on the roof of the barn over the road. The light was bad and I tried to get a bit closer but it flew when it saw me. I did get one distant shot though for the record. Thanks for the comment and the links. Diane

  6. I'm very jealous as it has been some months since I saw a Little Owl, Diane. The situation in these parts seems to have become quite desperate. I think much of it is due to the agricultural use of insecticides - the invertebrate population has crashes, and now everything else is starting to come tumbling down like a house of cards.

    Take great care - - - Richard

    1. Since I took this photo of the Little Owl I have managed to get more photos over a couple of days. Both shots were lucky, I was doing something in the house when I heard the first one and looked out to see it on the barn over the road. The second time I was watering, minus camera, and I heard it on our barn roof and I could only see it from the bottom of the garden through one gap in the trees. Shot inside to get the camera and it waited for me. Both photos from afar but such a delight to see them.

Over the past year many insecticides have been banned in France so hopefully things may improve.

Beat wishes to you both. Diane

  7. Any time that has an owl in it is a good time I think - even of you say not much is going on! Its been a long time since I have seen a Little Owl.
